Job Interview Tips – More Than a Good Resume
Some years ago, we had a visitor at home of the very important class and as I was about getting the usual cold sachet pure water for visitors, my mother disagreed and ordered me to get a cold bottle water instead. In my mind, I thought we were still offering the same water, but sincerely, that is the power of packaging.
The content water could have been from the same source, my mum never cared. All she knew was that one was used for a more important purpose than the other. In essence, you and I could have the same ideas and possibly the same intellectual capacity, but what firstly distinguishes us is our packaging.
It is not impossible you have put together a very convincing and captivating curriculum vitae. This is good and one of the ways of packaging yourself. At least, you will succeed in giving the company good first impression about you without them seeing you face-to-face. But more than that, what happens when you are called for an interview? Is your good and well-packaged curriculum vitae going to be opposite of what you actually look like when you enter the interview room?
Probably, most of us don’t need to be told to appear well; putting on clean and well- ironed dresses of our sizes not over- size. However, there are some salient issues we should note the next time we are going for an interview. As much as clean dresses count, clean underwear and clean socks (guys) matter a lot. It would be bad having something stinks around you. Guys should note that white socks are not good enough. Also, do well in having a handkerchief to clean up sweats.
Good looks are not out of it. Have a good hair- cut (guys), low cut preferably and a decent hair- do (ladies). Guys should not keep long nails. Also, pay important attention to your odours. Avoid mouth odour, it repels people and it is not bad putting on a body spray or perfume. Good looks and good odours are always inviting.
Build up confidence in yourself and be relaxed. Many a time, your confidence comes with how well-prepared you are for the interview. Prepare well for the interview. Be a well-rounded candidate; know little about everything. Research the company you are applying to and have enough information about them.
Keep up a smiling face throughout the course of the interview. Don’t be embarrassed or annoyed by any question. It won’t be good enough frowning at your interviewers or becoming moody during the interview. Endeavour to control your mood.
Most people seem to be neglecting the aspect of following up their interviews. They just sit in their houses waiting to be called up by the company. This isn’t good enough. You could initiate something. Sending e-mails to the company after the interview, complementing them and telling them how much you wish to work with them is not a bad idea!
Finally, be optimistic. Just as Hellen Keller said, ‘optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope or confidence.’ Put to use all of these hints when next you go for an interview and be sure of getting a positive result.
