BHP Billiton is currently undertaking a study to determine the feasibility of developing a significant laterite nickel deposit in Eastern Indonesia. The opportunity would involve the construction of world-class mining facilities, a process plant and associated infrastructure. This pivotal role will require an experienced and endurance individual to lead the development, design and implementation of a sustainable Community Relations strategy. You will lead the Project s involvement with all relevant community groups and networks to build a sound framework for a sustainable development program and constructive relationships across a wide range of stakeholder categories in Indonesia. This role also will require to prepare communication strategies for community related matters.

The ideal candidate for this challenging and high profile position will have a degree in the Social Sciences or technical discipline and significant experience in the Community Relations, preferably within a multinational company setting. You will also display a sound understanding of the communities of Eastern Indonesia. Fluent communication skills in both English and Bahasa Indonesia are essential along with excellent report writing.

This is a Jakarta based position with frequent travel to site.

Reporting to the Community Relations Manager, you will play a critical role in delivering Community Development Program which includes: coordinate and assist communities to prepare local community development plans; conduct regular meeting with regional stakeholders; coordinate community development works with other teams in the Company; supervise and prepare regular reports on community development works and its progress.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in delivering Community Development Program, working close with community organisation, wide range of network with organisation that related to Community Development. Your qualification in Social Science and Project Management will support this demonstrated experience, along with your action-oriented and committed attitude and a sound understanding of the communities of Eastern Indonesia.

This is a key role managing the security operations and related requirements for the multiple locations within the Pearl Project where you will provide a coordinated approach to the provision of security on the Project and anticipate the upcoming requirements in the Study phase to BHP Billiton standards.

Reporting to the Assets Manager, you will be responsible for establishing and implementing Security policies and procedures for the Pearl Project. You will also be responsible for designing and implementing remedial actions that may be required as a result of Security issues or audits. The overall management of all security personnel, performance management review and team building will allow you to develop a highly skilled and professional team.

Your substantial experience in Security Manager roles will be supplemented by qualifications in Security Management. You will have demonstrated leadership abilities and experience in the implementation of Security Systems, ideally within multinational corporate or resources setting. Extensive experience providing residential security for expatriates and understanding of expatriate requirements and potential risk areas, as well as experience working with or within Indonesian Military or Police will allow you to effectively develop in this dynamic position. Fluent communication skills in both English and Indonesian bahasa are essential along with sound report writing.

This position will require the majority of time spent working in several remote project site locations.

Reporting to the Planning Manager, your key accountabilities will include:

  • Providing support to the various project groups by compiling accurate data of the project;
  • Development of innovative solutions to provide problem resolution;

This role will be responsible for the day to day operations of our Sorong Office (in Papua) including Safety, financial services, administration, transport, logistics and supply according to BHP Billiton standards. You will be required to supervise and coordinate general administration functions of the office including office systems and procedures, administration of local contracts, management of accounts payable/receivable in conjunction with the Jakarta office. You will also require organizing the purchase and maintenance of office supplies and equipment. This role will support a smooth and efficient operation of our site activities through managing both internal and external communications including the government and community relations for the project.

Previous experience in managing a remote office environment and multi-disciplinary office will be well regarded. Your proven ability in administrative function and process improvement will compliment your background. A team player and good communication skills in both English and Bahasa Indonesia are essential. Significant experience working in logistics, finance and purchasing.

This is Sorong (Papua) based position.

Reporting to the Construction Manager, you will be responsible for the overall site activities in Eastern Indonesia to ensure smooth and efficient operation. You will be required to effectively troubleshoot and investigate innovative solutions that provide a win-win outcome. In this broad role you will ultimately be responsible for but not limited to overseeing Community Relations, HSE, Security, Camp, Logistics and Geological teams.

You will have gained substantial skills and experience in working with site personnel and managing the site facilities, i.e. mine site, camp, etc. An all-round Project Manager, who can multi-task and delegate requirements, will enhance the effective management of your various teams. A strong Health and Safety focus will assist in achieving Zero harm whilst a demonstrated proactive engagement with local community will be highly advantageous.

Besides describing the 9 different personalities, it reveals the unconscious motivation behind our behavior. By increasing our awareness of different lens of the world each type is seeing, we can better understand ourselves better and seek more ways to manifest our true potential. Humans are creatures of Habit and years of checking have helped us cope very well to survive in this world with our defense mechanisms.

For instance, the Ones are Perfectionist and try to make everybody around them to be perfect as well. They operate from a Right/wrong, black/white mindset. Ones are fastidious workers and are afraid to make mistakes at work. Their strength is they are well-organized and orderly. Look at your colleague’s table that is spick and span with stationeries kept nicely in the holder and files neatly arranged in respective folders. Employers who knew these characteristics will know better where to deploy the Ones in the company. Due to self-critical and judgmental nature, they tend to procrastinate and delay making decisions. The manager needs to exercise caution and be aware by working along and not against their personality. Forcing a square peg into a round hole is counter-productive as it causes resistance and unnecessary friction in the workplace.

The Ones will perform well in functions involving them to constantly improve the products/services such as customer service, quality control, strategic planning, etc. Sales role require a certain routine – sales call, meeting, proposals writing, closing,etc. The sales process is repetitive with clear defined steps involved which the Ones may not truly enjoy. They will question the sales process, the CRM tool, the meetings, the pricing not competitive, the products not as good as challenger and a list of never-ending comparisons. This make the sales manager hard to manage a One, thinking he/she is negative, lack discipline or not persistent sufficiency to achieve points. What the manager did not realize was a difference in personality map against the role requirement.

When the manager is able to align the strength of the employee with the job function, it is like a waterfall flowing downwards, natural and without resistance. This is the WIN-WIN situation that both employer and employee should strive towards.

By including this transformational tool as part of the interviewing process, the employer is able to weed out candidates who on the surface may seem suitable. Conversely, those looking for job and knowing your own style will be able to align your style with the right job. Sending hundreds of resume to the same manufacture with the hope of getting a response may not be the wisest strategy, especially in this current financial crisis.

The career one has need not be related to what one had studied in school. This is not to say Engineer grads out there start applying for Finance job and Accountancy grads going into creative arts without considering their academic skills. Some of us may elect to study a particular major because of parents and peers influence and not because you are passionate about it nor align it with your strength. When you graduate and start looking for job, you naturally/logically will choose those industries that you major in.
